A winner of the Prix Goncourt (The Lover, 1984), Marguerite Duras (1914–1996) is one of the most complex and prolific French writers of the 20th century.Born in a French colony in what is now Vietnam, she wrote and produced over 40 novels, essays, and plays, as well as 19 films. Marguerite Duras was a very prolific writer before she became a filmmaker.
